Weekend Update: September 16-18

September has been a busy month a the fairgrounds and this weekend is no exception. The weekend kicks off today with the 53rd annual N.C. State Championship Horse Show in the Hunt Horse Complex. The event is hosted by the Raleigh Lions Club and will benefit local charities.

The Greek Festival that will be held in the Exposition Center will feature authentic Greek food, music, dance and more. A portions of the proceeds from the event will benefit Habitat for Humanity.

On Saturday, N.C. State’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences will host it’s annual CALS Tailgate. The tailgate will include MCalls barbecue, the N.C. State Pep Band and other live entertainment and family-friendly games and booths. The N.C State-South Alabama football game will follow.

Visitors have five different events that they can experience Saturday and Sunday :

  • At Central North Carolina Pagan Pride at the L.R. Harrill Center attendees are welcome to join or observe rituals, attend workshops, meet with a variety of local pagan groups and more.
  • Antique guns and U.S. and foreign military arms and memorabilia are just a few examples of the items on display at the Old North State Antique Gun & Military Collector Show in the Scott Building.
  • Visitors can watch or play the fast-paced family-oriented dog sport at DoggoneFast Flyball Club’s 2011 Tournament in the Holshouser Building.
  • The Original Coin and Currency Show in the Martin Building will give visitors the opportunity to buy or sell rare coins, precious metals and paper money among other things.
  • As usual, the Raleigh Flea Market will be feature more than 600 North Carolina vendors selling everything from antiques to window treatments and well beyond.
