It’s Mothers’ Day weekend, so come out to theĀ Raleigh Flea Market to find a one-of-a-kind treasure for your mom. Some Shaw University students will give mom an early present when they walk across the stage in Dorton Arena Saturday morning and receive their degrees. Dorton Arena will host the Shaw University commencement exercises at 11 a.m. with featured speaker Madame Gloria Bongi Ngema-Zuma, First Lady of the Republic of South Africa. Tickets are not required for admittance, and seating is first-come, first-seated. Doors open at 9 a.m.

- N.C. Plantation Pleasure Walking Horse Tarheel Classic is Friday and Saturday at the Hunt Horse Complex. Show is 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Spectator admission is free.
- Mid-Atlantic Hound Association Dog show is Saturday and Sunday in the Holshouser Building. This AKC-sanctioned event features competition for hound breeds, canine good citizen testing, dog show tours, and a coonhound bench show. Event hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
- The Original Coin & Currency Show is Saturday and Sunday in the Scott Building. Show offers a variety of numismatic items including rare coins, precious metals, paper money, tokens, coin collecting books and supplies. Bring your coins and currency to be appraised or bought. Hours are Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
Be sure to mark your calendars for May 16 through 18 as the annual Got to Be N.C. Festival arrives at the fairgrounds. Come enjoy a mix of food, music, carnival rides and games, antique farm equipment and grandstand entertainment. Gate admission is free.
