It’s graduation weekend for many area colleges and the fairgrounds will host several commencement events this weekend, including Meredith College, NCSU College of Natural Resources and the NCSU Department of Biological Sciences.
It’s also Mother’s Day weekend and the Raleigh Flea Market is the perfect place to find a one-of-a-kind gift. The flea market features more than 100 vendors selling antiques, handmade, vintage and bargain items on the grounds and in the Commercial and Education buildings.
Other events this weekend:
Cinco De Mayo Celebration is Saturday in the Rand Grandstand. Activities include a Mexican rodeo and music featuring several popular Hispanic bands. Admission is $20. Children ages 12 and under and women are admitted free.
The Original Coin & Currency Show is Saturday and Sunday in the Scott Building. This show offers a variety of numismatic items including rare coins, precious metals, paper money, tokens, coin collecting books and supplies. Bring your coins and currency to be appraised or bought. Hours are Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
Mid-Atlantic Hound Association Dog Show is Saturday and Sunday in the Holshouser Building. This AKC-sanctioned event features competition for hound breeds, canine good citizen testing, dog show tours and a coonhound bench show. Event hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
Be sure to mark your calendars for May 15 through 17 as the annual Got to Be N.C. Festival arrives at the fairgrounds. Come enjoy a mix of food, music, carnival rides and games, antique farm equipment and grandstand entertainment. Gate admission is free.
