Weekend Update: May 6-8

Haven’t check out the Triangle’s newest professional indoor football team? This Sunday is your chance as the Triangle Torch returns to Dorton Arena to take on the Philly Yellow Jackets. Doors open at 2 p.m. and the game starts at 4 p.m. Box seats are $18 for adults and $13 for chidren. General admission is $12 for adults and $7 for children. Season tickets are also available.

Other events this weekend:

ReefSMART is Saturday in the Holshouser Building. This expo is put on by the nonprofit Sustainable Reef and consists of vendors offering goods and services throughout the day, raffles and a fragging demonstration. Learn how to make your own rock, or participate in a round table discussion on the hot topics in the hobby. Reefers on our local forums refer to ReefSMART as “a frag swap on steroids” or a “mini-MACNA.” Doors open 11 a.m. with $20 admission between 11 a.m. and noon. Free general admission from noon to 6 p.m.

Dixie Gun & Knife Classic is Saturday and Sunday in the Graham Building. This is a buy, sell or trade event for modern and collectible firearms, custom-made knives, hunting and fishing equipment, ammo, gun accessories, reloading supplies and more. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $9 for adults and children under 12 are free with paying adult. Visit the website for a $1 discount admission coupon.

Cinco de Mayo Celebration is Saturday in the Rand Grandstand. Celebration includes a rodeo and music featuring several popular Hispanic bands. Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Special $10 ladies admission from 11 a.m. to noon. Regular admission is $20 for ages 11 and up. All children under 11 admitted free.

Find mom something one-of-a-kind at the Raleigh Flea Market, featuring hundreds of vendors in the Commercial and Education buildings and outside grounds. Flea market hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

It would be hard for me to pick a favorite part of the Fair, but I can tell you one thing I hate - leaving it on the last day. I can't wait for opening day!
