Weekend Update: May 16-18

Bring your family out the the Got to Be NC festival this weekend at the fairgrounds.

This weekend the fairgrounds is the place to be as the annual Got to Be N.C. Festival brings a mix of food, music, carnival rides and games, antique farm equipment and grandstand entertainment. Gate admission is free. Festival hours are Friday, noon to 10 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Building and exhibit hours are Friday, noon to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday, 10 a.m .to 6 p.m.

Sample and buy food, beer and wine from more than 80 North Carolina companies in the Food, Wine and Beer Expo. Admission to the expo is $2 and includes redeemable coupons from vendors. Check out a blog post from earlier this week on the expo.

The Carolina Pig Jig is Saturday and features a barbecue competition and sale from 30 different Masonic groups in North Carolina. Admission to the Pig Jig is $15 for adults, $5 for children ages 7 to 11 and free for children under 7. Hours are 11 a.m. until the barbecue runs out.

Treat your kids to the pony rides, racing pigs and a Kidz Corral Activity Zone. A parade of antique tractors will be held daily at 1 p.m. Stay for the fireworks on Friday and Saturday at 9:15 p.m. This event is loads of fun forĀ  the whole family.
