Weekend Update: March 31 – April 2

Did he put on ring on it over the holidays? The Southern Bridal Show and Expo will be held in the Graham Building Saturday and Sunday.

Beer, brides-to-be and bargains make the fairgrounds a hot spot this weekend. Events will include the return of the World Beer Festival Raleigh, Southern Bridal Show and the J. Crew Warehouse Sale. See below for event details.

J.Crew Warehouse Sale starts Friday and runs through Sunday in the Holshouser Building. Items include J.Crew, Madewell & Crewcuts merchandise and accessories. Some product may be samples or second quality. All sales are final. Hours are Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free.

The Precious Gem & Mineral Show celebrates its 41st year at the state fairgrounds Friday through Sunday in the Scott Building.  This show is sponsored by the Tar Heel Gem & Mineral Club and includes 29 dealers. Check faceting, cabbing, chainmaking, wirewraping, bead stringing and gem tree demonstrations. Club members will also provide lectures about minerals and demonstrations of gem polishing and geode cutting, plus associated hobbies. The hospitality area sells grab bags with mineral specimens. Some could contain a faceted gem. Tickets for the geode raffle, door prizes and rock candy are in this area. An on-going silent auction has new items every hour. Dealers provide minerals, fossils, finished jewelry, gemstones, findings and beads for sale. Hours are Friday, 3 to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.

Triangle Farms Spring Indoor III NCHJA “C” Indoors Show starts Friday and runs through Sunday at the Hunt Horse Complex. Daily shows begin at 8 a.m. Admission for spectators is free.

World Beer Festival Raleigh returns on Saturday to the Exposition Center and grounds. With more than 75 breweries participating from all parts of the country, this is the premier beer festival in the Triangle. Attendees can sample from more than 250 beers in a variety of styles, along with a food truck rodeo, live entertainment, silent disco and more. Visitors can choose from either the 12-4 p.m. or 6-10 p.m. session and purchase tickets online.

Atlantic Indoor Association Circuit Champion Winter Guard and Indoor Percussion is Saturday and Sunday in Dorton Arena. This is a competition of Color Guards and Percussion units from Mid-Atlantic states composed of 100 units from North Carolina and Virginia.  Guard championships are Saturday, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children. Percussion championships are Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Adult tickets are $15 and kid tickets are $7. Upgraded tickets from Saturday are $10 for adults and $5 for children.
Tickets are only available for purchase at the door.

The Southern Bridal Show and Expo is Saturday and Sunday in the Graham Building. Meet more than 150 Triangle wedding experts and enjoy wedding fashion previews featuring the latest trends in bridal wear and tuxeda. Pre-register and purchase tickets online to receive a discount. Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission: $10 per person at the door (cash only) or $8 advance purchase. Click on our website for advance tickets and to register. 

The Raleigh Flea Market is Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Commercial and Education buildings and surrounding grounds. Come explore the hundreds of booths filled with antiques, clothes and handcrafted goods this weekend. Or, if you’ve been doing a little spring cleaning, rent a booth and sell some of your unwanted stuff. Information on booth rental is available at the flea market’s website: raleighfleamarket.net.

On the blog I go by Fun House (AKA Heather Overton). At the Fair you'll find me checking out the blue ribbon winners or hanging out in Heritage Circle. It would be hard for me to pick a favorite part of the Fair, but I can tell you one thing I hate - leaving it on the last day. I can't wait for opening day!
