Weekend Update: March 2-4

Horse shows and more this weekend at the N.C. State Fairgrounds

If you’re a horse, a hunter, or a general outdoor enthusiast, make your way down to the fairgrounds this weekend. We’ve got two big events at the Hunt Horse Complex as well as the Dixie Deer Classic, which will fill the Graham Building, Expo Center, Dorton Arena and Scott Building. Here’s a rundown of this weekend’s events:

The SERHA Jackpot Reining Fool ‘Em School ‘Em and Introductory Horse Show will take place at the Hunt Horse Complex Saturday and Sunday.  This show is for inexperienced riders hoping to learn better reigning techniques. Classes begin at 9 a.m. each day. You can find more information about the show at the SERHA website.

The Hunt Horse Complex also will host the Johnston County Horse Show Series with Open, Dressage, and Hunter Jumper competitions. Shows will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free.

The Dixie Deer Classic, the premier trophy whitetail deer show in the country, is coming back to the fairgrounds this weekend with seminars, displays, trophy scoring and archery competitions. The show also features the latest in hunting equipment from more than 200 vendors. Doors open today at 11 a.m. and go through Sunday. Admission is $10 for adults and is good for all three days. Children under 13 are admitted free and there is a special Friday-only ticket for $5. You can find more information about the event online at www.dixiedeerclassic.org.

And don’t forget about the ever-popular Raleigh Flea Market. The weekly market features hundreds of vendors selling everything from hand-carved chairs to homemade fudge. The market is open rain or shine Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

That’s all for this weekend, but go ahead and mark your calendar for these upcoming events:

About Bearded Lady

Paul Jones blogged for the 2009-2012 N.C. State Fairs. Here's his bio from 2009: Paul Jones, here (a.k.a. Bearded Lady). I love the N.C. State Fair. I love the rides, I love the food, but my favorite part of the Fair is the displays of the unusual. The two-headed snake, the world’s smallest woman, the world’s tallest horse and the list goes on. Originally from South Carolina, I hope that I can bring a different perspective to this blog as I shed light on some of the ordinary, yet extraordinary, aspects of this year’s Fair.
