Weekend Update: Jan. 1-3

Did he put on ring on it over the holidays? The Forever Bridal Show will be held in the Graham Building Saturday and Sunday.

The rain is finally moving out of the area, so come on out to the fairgrounds to celebrate the start of a new year at the Fairgrounds this weekend. Find great deals at the Raleigh Flea Market, open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, or check out these events.

Spa & Swim Show
SpaBlowout is an annual event where attendees can take advantage of once-a-year discounts from 40 to 80 percent off suggested retail prices. Head to the Expo Center to explore hundreds of hot tubs, swim spas and everything needed to create a backyard oasis. Hours are Friday, noon to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free.

First in Flight Cat Club 14th Annual “Meowing in the New Year” TICA Cat Show
Come see up to 250 cats of various breeds in competition from around the world in the Holshouser Building. Judges from across the United States, Canada, and Europe will be officiating. Rescue organizations will also attend with cats and kittens looking for forever homes. Vendors will be at the show with items for you and your cat-loving friends. This is a three-day TICA cat show. Hours are Friday, 2 to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults; $3 for senior citizens, students with ID and children ages 2 to 12 years; and children under age 2 are admitted free.

Carolina Piedmont Dog Agility
If you are more of a dog person, check out the Carolina Piedmont Dog Agility competitions in the Hunt Horse Complex. Spectator admission is free. Event hours are Friday, Saturday and Sunday starting at 8 a.m. until around 4 p.m.

Wedding Show
More than 200 of the area’s top wedding professionals will be on hand in the Graham Building. Hourly fashion shows, entertainment and prizes for attendees. Hours are Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $15. Brides can save on admission by pre-registering on the web. Ages 12 and under admitted free.

Old North State Antique Gun & Military Collector Show
Antique guns, U.S. and foreign military arms and memorabilia will be exhibited, bought, sold and traded in the Scott Building.  Hours are Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults, $1 for children 6 -12 and free for children age 6 and under.

On the blog I go by Fun House (AKA Heather Overton). At the Fair you'll find me checking out the blue ribbon winners or hanging out in Heritage Circle. It would be hard for me to pick a favorite part of the Fair, but I can tell you one thing I hate - leaving it on the last day. I can't wait for opening day!
