It’s Dixie Deer Classic time at the Fairgrounds as this huge event takes over Dorton Arena, Graham Building, Exposition Center, Scott Building, Holshouser Building and outside grounds. This event is a deer hunter’s dream offering the latest in hunting equipment from more than 200 vendors. The event also features seminars, displays, trophy scoring and an archery competition.
Special guests include Lee and Tiffany, stars of the Crush television show; C.J. Winand, writer and wildlife biologist, Joe Teti, star of Discovery channel’s Dual Survival show; and Team Primos members Keven Meacham, Keith Burgess, Chris Ashley and Cody Kelley from the Outdoor Channel show Primos TRUTH About Hunting. Hours are Friday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for ages 13 and older, children 12 and under are admitted free. Get your hand stamped for free return admission. Special Friday only admission of $5 for youth ages 13 to 18, seniors over 65, military members and women.

Other events this weekend:
Double L Bar Cowboy Mounted Shooters at the Hunt Horse Complex features riders dressed in period and contemporary western costumes. Riders on horseback shoot balloons from their galloping horses in the main arena with six guns, rifles and shotguns using safety blanks. Admission is $5 for adults and kids under 10 are free. Admission price covers both Saturday and Sunday. Event starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. on Sunday. About 50 to 70 riders are expected. On Saturday night the N.C. Horse Council will host an Extreme Trail Challenge at 7 p.m. in the main arena. More information is available online or by calling 919-327-1355.
The Raleigh Flea Market will be open Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with hundreds of vendors offering a variety of goods and services in the Commercial and Education buildings and on the outside grounds.
