
Cruise into the N.C. State Fairgrounds this weekend for the Classic Car Auction in the Graham Building and Exposition Center
Events this weekend at the Fairgrounds include the Classic Car Auction, Toy Train Sale and Swap Meet, An Hispanic Holiday Celebration and the Scandinavian Christmas Fair.
Raleigh Classic Car Auction – More than 250 vintage vehicles from four private collections will be on display and up for auction in the Graham and Expo buildings. Auctions start Friday and Saturday at 10 a.m and runs until 6 p.m.. A public preview will take place Friday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Admission is $10 per day for adults or $15 for a two-day pass. Admission for children under 12 is $5 per day or $7 for both days. Free admission for registered bidders.
Scandinavian Christmas Fair – This event Saturday in the Holshouser Building features Scandinavian favorites such as homemade foods, unique crafts and entertainment. There will be cultural exhibits and children’s activities. Entertainment includes folk dancing, folk music and the popular Lucia-procession. The food court will have Swedish meatballs, salmon and homemade breads. The event is sponsored by SWEA (Swedish Women’s Association) and VASA (Swedish-American organization). Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults, and children under 13 are admitted free.
Posada Navideña 2014 – Dorton Arena will host an Hispanic holiday celebration on Sunday. The event will feature international bands performing and booths offering professional health services as well as traditional Christmas items. Hours are 3 to 7 p.m. Admission is free.
Toy Train Sale and Swap Meet – More than 100 vendors will be selling trains, accessories, track switches, hard-to-find parts and other toy train-related items from brands such as Lionel, K-Line, MTH, Weaver, Atlas, American Flyer, Bachmann and more in the Scott Building. Workshops and minor on-site repair will also be offered. Kids Club activities will include train races. Hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. An auction will be held at 1 p.m. and special raffle at 3 p.m. General admission is $6 for adults and free for children under age 13 who are accompanied by a paying adult.
The Hunt Horse complex will also host the 6th Annual Holiday Classic Open Horse Show this weekend. This is a statewide open horse show for youth and adult exhibitors in Western, hunter and saddleseat divisions. Show benefits the NCSU Intercollegiate Western Riding Team and the North Central District 4-H Horse Program. Free spectator admission. Hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Also, those wanting to skip the hustle and bustle at the mall and look for unique holiday gift offerings will find the Raleigh Flea Market open Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (The News & Observer in Raleigh recommends the flea market as a great place to shop for holiday gifts!)
