Weekend Update: Aug. 16-18

Cowboy Mounted Shooting takes place this weekend at the Hunt Horse Complex.

Cowboys, boat enthusiasts and parents looking for a great deal on items for their children will fill the Fairgrounds this weekend under cooler skies which will also be perfect for visiting the flea market.

  • The Double L Bar Cowboy Mounted Shooters event will be held on Friday and Saturday nights at 7 p.m. at the Hunt Horse Complex. This show features riders dressed in period and contemporary western costumes. Riders will shoot balloons from their galloping horses in the main arena with six guns, rifles and shotguns using safety blanks. This thrilling competition combines shooting skills with horsemanship against the clock. Free admission.
  • Children’s Spring Clothing and Baby Equipment Sale will open to the public on Saturday in the Scott Building from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Gently used infant, children’s and maternity clothing, toys for all ages, books, games, videos, bikes, bedding, shoes, strollers, swings, cribs, highchairs, car seats and more are available. Sponsored by Triangle Mothers of Twins & Triplets.  Admission is free. Cash only, no checks and no credit cards accepted.
  • Carolina Fall Boat Show & Sale will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the Graham Building.  There will be a boat inventory reduction sale showcasing 15 marine dealers and more than 200 boats on display.  Show hours are Friday, noon to 8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. til 5 p.m.  Admission is $6 and children ages 12 and under are admitted free.
  • The Raleigh Flea Market also will be open this weekend. Make plans to visit the largest flea market in Raleigh on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m

On the blog I go by Fun House (AKA Heather Overton). At the Fair you'll find me checking out the blue ribbon winners or hanging out in Heritage Circle. It would be hard for me to pick a favorite part of the Fair, but I can tell you one thing I hate - leaving it on the last day. I can't wait for opening day!
