Makeovers and more at the Southern Women's Show this weekend

Calling all ladies to the N.C. State Fairgrounds for the Southern Women’s Show this Friday through Sunday in the Graham and Expo buildings. This year’s show features vendors offering spa treatments and makeovers, clothes, jewelry and gifts, gourmet food and wine, travel ideas, beauty tips, health screenings, cooking classes, fashion shows and more. Hours are Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is $12 at the door for adults or $6 for children ages 6 to 12. A $7 advance ticket is available at Walgreens. Admission is only $4 on Friday and Saturday night after 4 p.m. A $5 return ticket can be purchased at the show office and used with original ticket stub for return visit to the show.

After visiting the show, stop by the Raleigh Flea Market in the Commercial and Education Building and outside grounds. The flea market is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday, featuring hundreds of dealers, craftsmen and booths.

Other events this weekend:

The 5th annual N.C. Persian Festival is Saturday in the Scott Building. This event is a celebration of Persian culture and cuisine and is sponsored by the Iranian Culture Society of N.C. and features Persian dance performances, live music, art, food, cultural exhibits and displays, children’s activities, handicrafts, a silent auction and more. Hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is $2 for adults and children age six and under are admitted free.

Easter Bunny Quarter Horse Circuit Horse Show is Friday through Sunday at the Hunt Horse Complex. Show begins daily at 8 a.m. and spectator admission is free.

Triangle Multicultural Health Fair is Saturday in the Holshouser Building. Free health services include eye exams, blood pressure monitoring and medical analysis. The Colgate Dental Smile Bus, in coordination with the UNC Dental School, will also be available to provide dental cleanings for children.  Admission is free and hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come and meet N.C. State Basketball players at the event

The Fiestal del dia del Nino takes place Sunday at the Harrill Center. This Kids Festival Outreach Event offers family information, games and inflatables for kids as well as health and other professional services. The event is from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free for all ages.

On the blog I go by Fun House (AKA Heather Overton). At the Fair you'll find me checking out the blue ribbon winners or hanging out in Heritage Circle. It would be hard for me to pick a favorite part of the Fair, but I can tell you one thing I hate - leaving it on the last day. I can't wait for opening day!
