The N.C. Division of Pollution Prevention and Environmental Assistance is assisting Green Thing again this year with the Fair’s recycling booths. This is the second year we’ve had recycling bins at the Fair, and we’re excited this program is growing. We had some great volunteers last year who made the program a success, and we need your help again. Best of all, if you volunteer, you’ll recieve a Fair T-shirt and an admission ticket.
Here are some more details on the program from the RE3.org blog:
The recycling and composting education booth will be part of the GreenNC tent. The booth will include a vermicomposting bin, a plastic bottle sculpture and a recycling commitment form that will be completed on-line. Volunteers will need to be comfortable answering questions about recycling and composting. A few educational handouts will be given to volunteers to quickly bring you up to speed on our main educational topics and initiatives. Breaks will be given throughout your shift but you will be standing while at the booth, chairs will not be available.
The recycling effort will be a little different this year at the fair. The recycling bins will be scattered throughout the fairgrounds but will not require volunteers to staff them. However, we will ask that one volunteer on the 9 a.m. shift walk the fairgrounds to check on the bins and speak to any vendors that need to be reminded of the recycling program.
Visit the link to the post above to get all the details on volunteering and to access the survey each volunteer needs to fill out with preferred days and times you can work.
Dear NC State Fair,
I have already contacted the office of Mr. Wyatt about our school’s recycling project-Cans For A Cure.
We are collecting aluminum cans with all the recycling profits going to The American Cancer Society by way of our local Garner-area Relay For Life.
We are so excited about this large undertaking to be able to sort out and bag up cans for not only recycling purposes, but to reach out in the fight against cancer.
As of now, we are getting a team of volunteers together to come out after the run of the Fair and sort those cans!
Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to make a difference…one can at a time!
Sincerely,
Jim Hunt/art teacher
