Twitter roundup: Ten terrifying rides you won’t want to miss at this year’s State Fair

The first ride debuted at the N.C. State Fair in 1891. It was called the Switchback Railway and is similar to what we think of today as a roller coaster. Since that time, the number of rides and the importance of the midway has increased as the fair has moved away from focusing solely on agriculture to promoting and celebrating North Carolina industry and culture more generally.

The fair has a diverse offering of some pretty amazing rides, we posted some tweets on rides over the past week (#10terryifyingrides) to show people all the great adventures. Like we did last week for food , we’ve collected those tweets here in case don’t have Twitter, missed our tweets or just love rides that much. Be sure you don’t miss them when you’re at the fair this year!Moving from the left, the rides pictured above are as follows. In the top row: Zero Gravity, Ring of Fire and White Water. In the middle row: Tilt-A-Whirl, Super Shot, the Claw and Vertigo. In the bottom row: the Zipper (Photo credit: Love Haight, Tumblr), Wave Swinger and Twister.

Send us your favorite State Fair rides @NCStateFair and don’t forget to add #10terrifyingrides. Don’t forget that advance sale tickets will be available inĀ August 1 at 10 a.m. at ncstatefair.org.

About Tilt-A-Whirl

Jeff Miles interned for the N.C. State Fair in 2011. This is his bio from that year: People usually call me Jeff Miles but when asked what my favorite part of Fair was, rides was the first thing that came to mind--so call me Tilt-A-Whirl from here on out. I've always been a big fan of the State Fair and I'm really excited to be working here this summer. I'll be bringing you weekly updates on the goings on at the fairgrounds and hopefully much more. I can't wait to see you all in October (and hopefully before)!
