Twitter roundup: Five fantastically fun fair games the entire family can enjoy

Not everyone likes biting into an ultra-sugary Twinkie log or hanging upside down and being thrown around on the Claw, so what else is there to do at the fair? The answer is simple: A LOT. There is a variety of live entertainment options, numerous premium competitions and an ever-changing array of exhibits on agriculture, industry and North Carolina history just to name a few. One other family friendly option is games.

Games of chance trace their history back to the beginning of the fair itself. At that time, card games were the most prevelant, but fair officials banned that practice in 1875. Today, fairgoers can try their luck at a variety of carnival-style games, five of which were featured in some tweets we sent out over the last week (#5funfairgames) and are pictured below.

The game pictured in the center is Whack-A-Mole. On the outside, moving clockwise from top left, the games are: Ring-A-Bottle, Balloon Darts, the Water Gun Game and the Duck Pond Game.

Don’t forget to tweet your favorite rides using #5funfairgames and that you can play all these games and more at the 2011 N.C. State Fair October 13-23. We also wanted to remind everyone that advance tickets will be available online starting Monday, August 1, at 10 a.m. Don’t forget to pick yours up!

About Tilt-A-Whirl

Jeff Miles interned for the N.C. State Fair in 2011. This is his bio from that year: People usually call me Jeff Miles but when asked what my favorite part of Fair was, rides was the first thing that came to mind--so call me Tilt-A-Whirl from here on out. I've always been a big fan of the State Fair and I'm really excited to be working here this summer. I'll be bringing you weekly updates on the goings on at the fairgrounds and hopefully much more. I can't wait to see you all in October (and hopefully before)!
