Tune in to Apple Turnover

Hi there, fairgoers! My name is Alana Moore, and I’m the new N.C. State Fair PR intern for the Department of Agriculture. For my blog persona, I chose the nickname Apple Turnover. This is to pay homage to one of my favorite fair traditions with my dad—stopping by Heritage Circle for hot cider and, you guessed it, apple turnovers!

I’m a rising senior at N.C. State, majoring in Communication Media and minoring in Journalism. I was born and raised in Raleigh, so I didn’t have to go far. My main extracurricular activity is being a member of the university’s all-women a cappella group, Ladies in Red. If you’ve seen the movie “Pitch Perfect,” that’s what it is. I’m going on my third year as the group’s business manager and was president last school year. I’m very fortunate to have found this outlet that allows me to showcase my most adored passions—music and singing. In fact, one of my favorite things to do is go to concerts. I’ve attended over 10 shows in the past year alone, the standout being Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. That was my first time in Nashville, and I even got to be an extra on Blake Shelton’s game show filmed at his restaurant and music venue Ole Red.

I also love tennis! I’ve played since eighth grade and achieved a USTA ranking of 32 in the state in the Girls’ 16s age group. While I don’t practice as much anymore, I’ve discovered a talent for coaching. I’ve taught a variety of students from preschoolers to adults, ranging from beginner to advanced levels, through group lessons, private sessions and summer camps. I’m a night owl, coffee enthusiast and animal lover. My other hobbies include spending time with my friends, going on drives, watching TV shows (I’m currently watching “Reba”), writing and trying new foods and restaurants. I recommend My Way Tavern for delicious mac-n-cheeses and Taza Grill for the best lamb gyros in town. My dream is to travel the world!

I’m so excited to be interning for the State Fair and helping with its promotion! It truly is a one-of-a-kind event that people from all around look forward to every year. Some of my fondest memories growing up are when I’d go to the fair with the experts: my best friend and her family. From hitting up every single ride with our wristbands to devouring messy BBQ wings, it was always an amazing time. I highly recommend the upside-down claw, the tall swings and the art exhibits in the Kerr Scott Building to anyone who hasn’t experienced those attractions (in elementary school, I would have artwork displayed there)! Stay tuned to Apple Turnover on Deep Fried for new blogs that will even further convince you that the N.C. State Fair is the finest fair around!

Fair fun with the Long family!

I absolutely adore the fair and would go frequently with my best friend and her family growing up. Some of my fondest memories include when I had my artwork displayed for the art and photography competition and the time my middle school choir performed at Dorton Arena.
