The Bacon Trail was a big hit at the N.C. State Fair last year, with fairgoers checking out more than 40 vendors with bacon on the menu.
The Fair’s tastiest trail is becoming more exciting this year with the chance to compete in scavenger hunt-style missions to gain points for the daily chance to win a month’s worth of bacon from one of several North Carolina pork companies.
Points are earned through purchasing food with bacon or interacting with pig-related exhibits throughout the fair. Earning 2,000 points is enough to be entered into the daily competition for free bacon.
The N.C. Pork Council introduced the Bacon Trail last year to highlight the fair’s most popular ingredient – bacon. “The map was a hit with fairgoers, but there was no way to track fairgoers’ excitement for bacon,” said Jen Kendrick, NCPC director of communications. “Making the trail interactive and competitive is a fun way for fairgoers to show their passion for the fair’s most popular ingredient. But the reality is that you don’t even have to buy a single item to be able to earn enough points to be entered to win free bacon.”
The Goosechase app is free and no account registration is required to get started in the app. Fairgoers will need to submit their name and email address to be entered to win, but it is not necessary to participate. On busy days when cellular networks are overloaded, photos can be uploaded later, but all photos must be easily recognizable as being at the 2023 NC State Fair. Organizers may deduct points or delete photos from the competition that are deemed inappropriate or distasteful in the spirit of the competition. Submissions may be used by the N.C. Pork Council, the N.C. State Fair or the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services in social media promotions.
