“The Queen of Quilts”

The N.C. State Fair is saddened at the death of one of its biggest supporters, Mrs. Charlotte Wyatt. Besides being the proud mom of State Fair Manager Wesley Wyatt, Mrs. Wyatt served as supervisor of the quilts and clothing division for more than 30 years. She retired her post at the end of the 2007 State Fair, expecting to spend her coming Octobers in the mountains or on other personal pursuits.

The News & Observer did a wonderful story last year about this great lady and her accomplishments right before her retirement. You can find the article here:

Wesley, you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Your mom will be greatly missed!

About Cotton Candy

Karlie Justus - blogged for the 2008 / 2009 N.C. State Fairs. This is her bio from 2009: When I'm not blogging for the N.C. State Fair, I go by Karlie Justus--but Cotton Candy suits me just fine. My earliest memories of the Fair are of the times my parents would bring my brother and I up from Asheville, N.C. for a double dose of the Fair and a N.C. State football game. Fast-forward two decades later, and I'm a public information officer for the deep fried celebration whose must-see Fair attractions include the giant pumpkins, decorated cakes and deep fried Oreos.
