Meet the new Deep Fried intern — Wildflower

I’m Evie Fordham, but you can call me Wildflower. Since I was able to hold a pencil, I’ve loved to write. In elementary school, I stuck handmade “neighborhood newspapers” in my neighbors’ mailboxes. In middle school, I thought I had made it big when I started writing for my church newsletter. And through high school, my desire to go to college and major in journalism never wavered. My college path led me out of state to Patrick Henry College in northern Virginia, near Washington, D.C. I love the D.C. area, but I sure do miss North Carolina (and its sweet…

Intern check-in

With the help of the Deep Fried crew, I’ve already checked several things off of my Internship To-Do List. In case you’re wondering if all I ever do is write Weekend Updates, I’m glad to tell you no; there are many other things I’ve worked on this summer. Tilt-A-Whirl here, signing off at least for now

Today marks my last day with the N.C. State Fair through North Carolina’s State Government Internship Program. Though it is cliche to say, I can’t believe that my time at the fair has come to a close so quickly. The good news is that I will be back to assist the Deep Fried Crew during their busiest time before, during and immediately after the fair. I know that my experience here will help me in my future career, but more…

Tilt-A-Whirl here, signing on

Starting a new job is always nerve-racking, but I have to say that I felt welcome the moment I walked through the door here at the N.C. State Fair.  Besides all the lovely people I work with here, I think the transition was made easier by the fact I’m exactly where I wanted to be this summer.  I love the Fair, and that, combined with the passion that I have for public service, is why I chose to apply for this internship and then to work here.   I hope eventually to make a career out of public service, and I…

New kid on the blog

As a rising senior, and hopeful public relations practitioner, I have had my fair share of internship experiences. Each experience has initially been marked by that “first-day-of-kindergarten,” anxious feeling. My first day working with the N.C. State Fair was no different. However, unlike my past experiences, my first day of work took place at the Got to Be NC Festival. My nerves were immediately calmed when my first work assignment involved strolling around the Carolina Fiberfest exhibit, watching an antique tractor parade, feeding alpacas and photographing lawn mower races. Yup, my thoughts exactly—I have the best summer internship by far….
