Weekend Events: April 1-3

As we gear up for the 2011 N.C. State Fair, Oct. 13-23, we’ll highlight some of the weekend activities at the Fair. ‘Black Friday’ at the Fairgrounds

The State Fairgrounds will offer several events on “Black Friday” to accommodate holiday shoppers, and you won’t even have to wake up too early! The Raleigh Flea Market will open a day early, and operate from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 26, for shoppers looking to buy locally made, unique and antique items. It’s a party for the whole family on Blue Ridge

West Raleigh is the place to be this weekend as our neighbor, the N.C. Museum of Art, hosts its grand opening celebration. But, that’s not the only thing happening on Blue Ridge Road this weekend; the fairgrounds will be full of activities for women, children, teens and clowns of all ages. Pink carpets are rolled out for the Southern Women’s Show, featuring spa treatments, makeovers and a variety of boutique vendors offering plenty of retail therapy. Fairgrounds events add culture, variety to the first weekend of spring.

By all accounts, spring will begin with a weekend full of beautiful weather. What better time for a family outing at the N.C. State Fairgrounds? With hundreds of events each year, the fairgrounds offers a variety of activities to choose from, and some of the more popular shows have a decidedly cultural flair. The India Fest Cultural Arts Showcase will take place in Dorton Arena Friday through Sunday. This festival has grown in popularity and size since its first year at the fairgrounds in 2004, expanding to a three-day event, and will kick off tonight with a live dance and music show featuring Bollywood singer Shreya Ghoshal….

Flea Market re-opens on Saturday

The 2009 State Fair has ended, but that doesn’t mean the fairgrounds shuts down until next October. In fact, as soon as the gates were closed on the last night of Fair, we all took a deep breath and started to reorganize and prepare for the many upcoming events. Throughout the year, the State Fairgrounds hosts everything from coin shows to a roller derbys, but there is one event that happens nearly every weekend — the Raleigh Flea Market.
