Weekend Update: Dinosaurs: Time Trek, India Fest, Puppapalooza and more

Puppies and cats and dinosaurs? Oh my! It’s that kind of weekend at the fairgrounds where there’s something for everyone. Visitors to the State Fairgrounds can travel back to prehistoric times with the Dinosaurs: Time Trek exhibit on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Graham Building. This event will feature a life-like interactive dinosaur exhibit as well as activities such as Design-A-Dino, Prehistoric Poop and Race Through Time Labyrinth. Quilt competition spreads Christmas joy

This is the first year Anthony Baker, 34, of Zebulon entered a quilt into the N.C. State Fair. It may not have been a blue ribbon winner, but that didn’t mean it isn’t the best in show to one person in his life. Baker, who learned embroidery from a neighbor over the summer, created a Christmas quilt for his mother and surprised her with it at the fair. “My mom’s mom passed away a few year’s ago and I used fabric that belonged to her to put this one together,” he said. “She cried when she saw it and wanted…

Premium Book entries are still rolling into the exhibit halls across the fairgrounds. Several departments began accepting pieces on Friday, including the art and photography department. Art entries will be accepted in the Kerr Scott Building until Sunday at 5 p.m. When complete, the exhibit will feature more than 2,500 pieces of work from school art classes, amateurs and professionals. In the Education Building, the display cases are filling up with canned goods for the food preservation contest, quilts are being dropped off and prepared for hanging, and clothing entries are being placed into position. Sights, Sounds and Smells: Mtn. State Fair, Part I

I mentioned a few posts ago that the corn on the cob cupcakes (which won a blue ribbon, by the way!) had me craving roasted corn. Well, here at the Mtn. State Fair they have deep fried corn on the cob, making our Deep Fried blog very proud. I vote to bring this to the State Fair!
