We had a great time last night hanging out with more than 100 of our social media followers at the Deep Fried Triangle Tweetup. We hope everyone had fun creating origami Twitter birds, sharing their State Fair memories, learning how to yo-yo, sampling Deep Fried Kool-Aid and House-Autry Mills hushpuppies and posing on our red carpet during the event. Sky Diver is a whirlwind of fun

At first glance, the Sky Diver looks like a plain Ferris wheel. But when you get up close, you realize there is a lot more to this ride than meets the eye. The Sky Diver is based on a Ferris wheel design, but passengers sit in cages similar to the Zipper. The cages are mounted on an axle that allows the cars to spin like a barrel roll. The best part? Progress Photo: Friday

Friday was a warm and beautiful day at the fairgrounds. The crew from Powers Great American Midways is putting together several rides including Fighter, the newest ride at the Fair. Many food vendors were spotted last weekend, and more will be placed into position this weekend. In the entry departments, workers were busy accepting entries and potential blue-ribbon winners. They’ll be even more activity this weekend, and we’ll be here to keep you posted on the progress.

Ride Report: Fighter debuts in 2010

Do you spend your days at the Fair alternating between deep-fried goodness and stomach-churning rides? Well, this may interest you: Powers Great American Midways, which brought last year’s popular Vertigo ride, recently confirmed the latest ride to grace the midway at the N.C. State Fair. It’s called Fighter. According to the manufacturer, this ride combines the rotating movements of a carousel with the pendulum motion of a swing.
