Flea market and other activities return as cautious fairgrounds reopening continues

Shoppers rejoice! The flea market at the N.C. State Fairgrounds has reopened, and it’s welcoming the public once again – the socially distanced, clean-handed, nose-and-mouth-covered public, of course. Officially called The Raleigh Market these days, it actually re-opened a few weekends ago for the first time since closing because of COVID-19. It will be open Labor Day weekend as usual, just not on Labor Day since that’s a Monday. The market didn’t reopen as soon as retail locations were allowed to welcome customers again though. Presents Neal McCoy in Concert Saturday at 8 p.m. in Dorton Arena. Weekend Update: May 30-June 1

The N.C. Junior Beef Roundup takes place Saturday and Sunday in the Graham Building. The event is coordinated by a group of juniors from all over the state, their breed advisers, the Purebred Breeders Council, the N.C. Cattlemen’s Association and the N.C. State University  4-H and Youth Livestock Department. The livestock show includes steer and breed shows, a showmanship competition, skill development and leadership development activities. It’s a weekend of beef, bottles, horses and collectibles at the State Fairgrounds. The showers are expected to pass this evening, and according to local meteorologists, the remainder of the weekend promises to be beautiful. Weekend Update: September 16-18

September has been a busy month a the fairgrounds and this weekend is no exception. The weekend kicks off today with the 53rd annual N.C. State Championship Horse Show in the Hunt Horse Complex. The event is hosted by the Raleigh Lions Club and will benefit local charities. On Friday visitors can also check out: Meredith College’s Sizzlin’ September Concert in Dorton Arena featuring The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.
