Weekend Update: June 6-8

With so much going on at the Fairgrounds this weekend, there’s sure to be something for everyone. The weekend events kicked off Thursday morning with a Welcome Home Send-Off Ceremony for World War II veterans. Operation Omaha/USO of N.C. organized the ceremony for the return of 100 WWII veterans from their visit to the National D-Day Memorial for the 70th anniversary of the battle.  Organizers anticipate the veterans returning around 7 p.m. Friday, and the public is invited to come join in this welcome home acknowledgement ceremony. Weekend Update: June 22-24

Horsepower and horse shows are part of this weekend’s lineup at the fairgrounds. Read on for more information about three special events being held, and don’t forget to check out the weekly Raleigh Flea Market, open Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Classic Car Auction Classic cars will be on display and up for grabs in the Graham Building and Expo Center Friday and Saturday. Weekend Update: April 6-8

Don’t be alarmed if you see a bunch of robots moving around Dorton Arena this weekend. The robots aren’t dangerous; they are part of the 2012 NC FIRST Robotics Regional. NC FIRST encourages students to pursue degrees in science and technology through hands-on experiences, such as building robots. During the tournament, high school teams from across the country will control their robots through a series of challenges.
