Weekend Update: June 6-8

With so much going on at the Fairgrounds this weekend, there’s sure to be something for everyone. The weekend events kicked off Thursday morning with a Welcome Home Send-Off Ceremony for World War II veterans. Operation Omaha/USO of N.C. organized the ceremony for the return of 100 WWII veterans from their visit to the National D-Day Memorial for the 70th anniversary of the battle.  Organizers anticipate the veterans returning around 7 p.m. Friday, and the public is invited to come join in this welcome home acknowledgement ceremony. We’ve got a lot of great events this weekend, including a celebration of homemade crafts and gizmos and educational demonstrations from local refugees. Weekend Update: June 17-19

This weekend at the fairgrounds kicks off with Maker Faire: North Carolina in the Scott Building on Saturday.  The event is designed to showcase all things home-made and entrepreneurial and to celebrate the American creative spirit.  The events will feature exhibits of handcrafted goods in a variety of categories from engineering and hacking to food and health and beyond.  Maker Faire will also include activities for kids and live music throughout the day.
