Casey’s Highlights from the 2015 N.C. State Fair

The 2015 State Fair ended just over a week ago with attendance topping the 1 million mark. This week Casey Cardinal is offering a trip down memory lane to look back at his top five highlights from the fair. Friday Frenzy and record attendance days: The fair started with two record attendance days. Preview Day on Thursday brought in a record 50,327 people. Friday’s new promotion, Friday Frenzy, brought in 90,954 people, many who took advantage of the $5 admission for students and an unlimited ride wristband promotion. Progress Photos: Tuesday

We walked around the fairgrounds today and noticed it’s looking a lot like the Fair. More than 100 rides are being assembled and inspected in the midway, old midway and Kiddieland. The Education Building is full of activity with judges tasting sweet baking entries and hanging quilts for display. In Dorton Arena, sound equipment is being installed for the nightly concerts, and in the Village of Yesteryear crafters are unloading their wares and preparing for 11 days of demonstrations. Free grounds entertainment abounds (Part 1)

HoopDrum returns to the 2010 N.C. State Fair It’s an interesting balancing act that State Fair Assistant Manager Mike Pleasant plays each year when booking grounds entertainment. While he strives to bring new and interesting acts to the Fair, whenever something disappears, he hears from scores of disappointed people who were hoping to see just the act that he didn’t renew.  So to keep things fresh, he rotates acts around, bringing in new acts every few years and giving some acts a year or two breathing room before bringing them back. Fair favorites return after brief hiatus

In addition to the returning acts (BMX bikes, racing pigs, poodles, clowns, etc), a few familiar faces will be returning to the State Fair this year after one- or two-year absences. Al the Artist may not have a large presence–a small cartoon car is his only prop–but his absence from last year’s Fair was felt by many who have come to count a drawing by Al as a “must” on their Fair to-do list. The fair is going to be a whole lotta green this year with the help of one man – Steve Trash, Rockin’ Eco Hero and Kid Comedian. After performing all over the world, Steve will bring his green magic show to the N.C. State Fair for the first time this October. The show is filled with eco-illusions, magic tricks and comedy that provide children with tips on being green. Steve will make his N.C.
