Weekend Update: July 29-31

This weekend at the fairgrounds kicks off today with Sportscard and Sports Memorabilia 3-Day Show hosted by Inside Pitch Promotions. The event runs through Sunday and features nearly 100 vendors buying, selling or trading new and vintage sports items. Sportscards, memorabilia and NASCAR specialty items are just a few of the things to look forward to. Weekend Update: July 15-17

The Raleigh Kids Exchange Consignment Sale begins today and continues through Sunday in the Graham Building and Exposition Center. The event bills itself as “the ultimate recycle” and “the nation’s largest consignment event.” In the past few years the event has grown steadily, so expect to see a wide variety of items. Kids Exchange is designed to allow parents to come together to buy, sell and donate clothes, toys and other children’s items. Weekend Update: July 8-10

The State 4-H Horse Show begins today at 3 p.m. and runs through Sunday night at the Hunt Horse Complex. The show is designed to highlight the achievement of North Carolina’s youth in the areas of horseback riding and horse management. The N.C. State Fair and the State 4-H have enjoyed a long tradition of cooperation. The event will feature more than 100 equine competitions and a vendor fair. Weekend Update: July 1-4

The holiday weekend at the fairgrounds kicks off today with the start of the NCHJA Annual Hunter Jumper Show at the Hunt Horse Complex. Horses will compete for thousands of dollars in prize money, and the show will feature a variety of special events open to the public. Visitors will have the chance to pet ponies, watch a blacksmith at work and browse the offerings at a silent auction. Weekend Update: June 10-12

The 2011 Tarheel Triple Classic began yesterday and will continue through June 18 at the Hunt Horse Complex. The classic features 10 full days of horse shows and combines the N.C. Quarter Horse Association’s Show, Jamboree and Little Futurity into one event.  The event is one of largest of its kind on the East Coast, and $200,000 in prizes will be given away at the main show on Monday night. Weekend Update: June 3-5

Although the 2011 N.C. State Fair is still months away, there’s still plenty to do for everyone at the Fairgrounds this weekend.  The Capital Dressage Classic runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Sunday.  The horse competition also includes a vendor fair.  On Saturday the Classic will also host a special performance by the 82nd Airborne Division’s All-American Chorus and a Medieval jousting and tournament games exhibition. Weekend Update: May 25-28

Get an early start to your Memorial Day weekend  at the Fairgrounds with the opening of the Southern States Regional Morgan Horse Show today at the James B. Hunt Horse Complex.  The event runs through Saturday and shows will feature a variety of horses including the dressage, English pleasure, Western, Hunt and Classic styles. If you’ve never been to a horse show at the Hunt Horse Complex, you will have two opportunities this weekend to enjoy the busiest equine facility in North Carolina and Virginia. The Tar Heel Plantation Classic will feature plantation pleasure walking horses competing in meets Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. If you want to see a variety of breeds, come to the Carolina Mane Event Saturday or Sunday. Fairgrounds events add culture, variety to the first weekend of spring.

By all accounts, spring will begin with a weekend full of beautiful weather. What better time for a family outing at the N.C. State Fairgrounds? With hundreds of events each year, the fairgrounds offers a variety of activities to choose from, and some of the more popular shows have a decidedly cultural flair. The India Fest Cultural Arts Showcase will take place in Dorton Arena Friday through Sunday.
