FOOD FINDS: Deep Fried Caramel DeLites vs. Deep Fried Swiss Rolls

Flying Bob, Firecracker, Honey Bee and Bearded Lady compare two new foods at the 2012 N.C. State Fair. The first one was the very popular Deep Fried Caramel DeLites from S2 Concessions. These Girl Scout cookies are battered, fried and covered in spices. We also reviewed the Deep Fried Swiss Rolls from Chef’s D’Lites. Food Finds: Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls

Flying Bob and Bearded Lady review one of the new food attractions at the fair, Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls. The egg rolls are filled with finely chopped steak and cheese and covered in a sweet chili sauce. You can also get the sauce on the side. The Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls are available at Woody’s, located near the entrance to the Midway and church food booths. Food Finds: Deep Fried Cinnamon Rolls Covered in Bacon and Deep Fried Cupcakes

Each year, the Press Office hosts a pre-fair lunch for local media outlets. It’s a great opportunity to share what’s new at the fair. From the latest rides to newest grounds acts, we try to cover everything including the food. Willy Wonka would be proud. Granny Smith apple, dipped in caramel, rolled in toffee candy bits, dipped again in white chocolate, rolled in crushed Butterfinger candy, dipped AGAIN in rich, dark chocolate, rolled in semi-sweet chips, dipped again in chocolate, rolled in an array of nuts, topped with more chocolate and a specialty candy. Food Review: Deep-fried candy and caramel apples

You may have stopped by one of McBride’s concession stands at the fair in the past. It’s particularly famous for its giant turkey legs, chicken, ribs and barbecue. This year, in addition to some of the old standbys, McBride’s also has a new twist on a State Fair classic with deep-fried candy and caramel apples. Challenge accepted: Deep-fried brownies

Last week, we asked you to submit press office challenges you would like to see covered on the Deep Fried blog during the fair. We received about a dozen entries and narrowed the list to three. Food Review: Deep-fried chicken pot pie

Working in the State Fair press office can be stressful at times, but one of the best parts of the job is getting to sample fair food. We’ve done a lot of reviews for the Deep Fried blog, and here’s our latest one for deep-fried chicken pot pie at Woody’s City Market near the midway.
