Day 4: Sinful Fair Foods

Over the past four years, we’ve had the chance to sample some of the latest, greatest and strangest fair food to come to the N.C. State Fair. In the spirit of year-end lists, we thought we would look back at 15 of our favorite food-related posts from the past four years. Each day between now and Christmas, we’ll post a different food review from our archives. 4. Twitter roundup: Seven sinful State Fair foods (2011) Food has long had a central role in shaping the way people experience the N.C. State Fair. Premiums have been awarded for the production of…

Do you want to be our State Fair Street Team?

For the past three years, we’ve selected one fair fanatic to serve as our Deep Fried Ambassador during the State Fair. These bloggers were amazing, and we thank them for adding a new perspective to the fair. This year, we’re opening up a few more spots. We realize not all of our fans are bloggers. Some are really active on Twitter and Facebook. Others create their own food reviews on YouTube. And others are using new sites, such as Pinterest to share their interests with friends. This year, we’re doing away with the Deep Fried Ambassador and introducing the State…

Squeals, Thrills and Ferris Wheels

Each year, a member of the Deep Fried Crew gets the opportunity to help out in the press office at the N.C. Mountain State Fair. This year, it’s my turn. Like the State Fair in Raleigh, the Mountain Fair has a load of agricultural exhibits, competitions, rides and entertainment for the whole family. This year’s theme is “Squeals, Thrills and Ferris Wheels,” and fairgoers will find all of it in Fletcher. Despite the similarities, the Mountain Fair has some things you won’t find at the State Fair. For instance, next week there will be a rodeo with riders from the…

Deep Fried Triangle Tweetup Recap

We had a great time last night hanging out with more than 100 of our social media followers at the Deep Fried Triangle Tweetup. We hope everyone had fun creating origami Twitter birds, sharing their State Fair memories, learning how to yo-yo, sampling Deep Fried Kool-Aid and House-Autry Mills hushpuppies and posing on our red carpet during the event. We’d like to send a special thanks to our sponsors and exhibitors who made the event such a success. Thanks to Susan Hansen from the Village of Yesteryear, Lisa Gregory with Blue Ribbon Memories, The Amazing Arthur Fratelli, Smokey Bear and…

A little rain didn’t extinguish our SPARK

When it comes to promoting the fair, we like to start from the ground up – literally. That’s why Blue Ribbon, Merrie Go Round and I joined about 280 other teams sprawled out in the middle of Fayetteville Street for a day of street chalking during artSPARK in downtown Raleigh. Together, with some very talented students from Garner Magnet High School, we created a unique kind of billboard for the fair. We’d like to thank the students from GMHS for their wonderful design and help Friday and Saturday. We chalked four squares during the event. Three were dedicated to the…

Show your “Love A Fair” and become the next Deep Fried Ambassador?

Do you have a passion for the N.C. State Fair that rivals all your friends? Are you the go-to person in your neighborhood or office for any and all fair-related information? Do you dream about racing pigs circling the latest deep-fried creation? If you answered yes to any of these questions, have we got a job for you. It’s time for us to pick another Deep Fried Ambassador, a blogger whose enthusiasm for the N.C. State Fair is close to our own. We’ve been impressed with the deep-fried passion of our previous winners Ashlee and Suzanne. Last year, Ashlee from…

Tilt-A-Whirl here, signing off at least for now

Today marks my last day with the N.C. State Fair through North Carolina’s State Government Internship Program. Though it is cliche to say, I can’t believe that my time at the fair has come to a close so quickly. I feel as though it was just yesterday that I met all the wonderful people that I’ve worked with here. The good news is that I will be back to assist the Deep Fried Crew during their busiest time before, during and immediately after the fair. I know that my experience here will help me in my future career, but more…
