Congratulations to Kris Thomas from Greenville, whose country song won top prize in the $5 Footlong Song Challenge today at the Kitchen Craft Waterfall Stage. Thomas beat out four other acts to win $500 Subway gift card and tickets to see Anoop Desai in concert at Dorton Arena on Thursday, Oct. 22. Nicole Griffin and Lindsey Barfield, both of Raleigh, who sang a bluegrass duet on the wonders of Subway and the N.C. State Fair, came in second place. They’ll share a $250 Subway gift card. Five local lyricists and all of their fans will meet at the Kitchen Craft Waterfall Stage on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 1:30 p.m. for the $5 Footlong Song Challenge showdown! Come on out to cheer for your favorite performance. Here are the finalists: Kris Thomas, 27, a school and office furniture salesman from Greenville, will sing to country music. If you haven’t heard, the N.C. State Fair is hosting the first $5 Footlong Song Challenge with Subway this year. (I know you’re mentally singing the “5…5 dollar…5 dollar footloooong” jingle in your head right now. Yeah, me too.) You can check out the rules for the contest on the challenge’s Web site, but basically you choose a style of music (rock, country, hip-hop, bluegrass or island, which are provided on the Web site) and submit original lyrics focusing on SUBWAY Restaurants’ “$5 Footlongs” and the N.C. Are you a natural born lyricist with a love for the N.C. State Fair and Subway sandwiches? Think you can handle performing live in front a hungry State Fair crowd? Then get ready for the $5 Footlong Song Challenge! Subway and the State Fair are seeking singers with talent. Submit your song lyrics to the music style of your choice and you could be selected to audition for a chance to perform live at the Fair!
