The fair makes it easy to turn a class field trip into a learning experience. This year, three different scavenger hunts are available on the website – geared towards elementary, middle and high school students.
The scavenger hunts are also encouraged for parents and homeschoolers coming to the fair. They are designed so everybody can learn a little about our state while at the fair.
Sample Questions:
Elementary: Agriculture is North Carolina’s No. 1 industry. This exhibit highlights some of the products grown, raised, caught or made in North Carolina. If you want the best, look for the Got to Be NC label. North Carolina grows more ________________ than any other state.
Middle: Bees are often called the sparkplug of agriculture. Visit the bee and honey exhibits in the Exposition Center. Honey is a delicious byproduct of pollination. Ancient Egyptians were also a big fan of honey. What were three ways they used this superfood?
High School: Start your hunt by saying hello to the 25-foot Smokey Bear in Heritage Circle. On Aug. 9, 2019, Smokey Bear celebrated his 75th birthday. Remember that “Only YOU can prevent forest Fires.” What zoo became Smokey Bear’s permanent home?

The scavenger hunt will take students to 13 different locations on the fairgrounds. At these locations will be signs or exhibit staff that will provide answers. Teachers can request an answer key. Students can turn in completed scavenger hunts at the information booth in front of the Expo Center to collect their blue ribbon.
