Start your intense thumb exercise regimens now to prepare for the State Fair’s first cell phone texting competition. We’re looking for texters ages 10 and up with the gift of speed…or any adult with the confidence to go up against some of the more “seasoned” competitors. We don’t have all the details set in stone quite yet, but here’s what we do know:
The actual contest will have anywhere from 50 to 100 competitors. There won’t be an entry fee and get this…the grand prize for the fastest texter will be $500! Ribbons and State Fair gifts will be awarded to second, third and fourth runners up. And just when you thought this was more of a single person (single finger?) sport, there will also be prizes for the audience at the competition.
For anyone out there looking to get an early leg up on the competition in the mean time, check out this hilarious site called Transl8 It. Just like with Spanish or French, it translates regular words into more texting-appropriate lingo and vice versa. To get everyone’s juices flowing for this “gr8” new competition, I’ve “text”-tified the following State Fair messages. Five people who translate them in the comments section correctly AND add a super-creative one of their own will win a 2008 N.C. State Fair T-shirt! We’ll decide who got the most right and had the most creative additions by the end of the week so be sure to check back. And for our Facebook/MySpace readers, be sure to comment directly on this blog to be eligible!
