It’s been a long, dusty summer at the State Fairgrounds while a large parking lot underwent a transformation, but I must say that the result is worth it. The area between the Grandstand, Dorton Arena and the Expo Center (A.K.A. “the Dorton Triangle”) was demolished and rebuilt this summer. The result is a level, safe parking area that will be home to lots of food concessionaires during the fair. The nice part is there are two areas carved out for the express purpose of creating seating for fair patrons. The retaining walls will create a lot of seating on their own, but there will be tables set up as well. This is also the location for one of the four recycling stations that will be in use during the Fair.
Wesley Wyatt, fair manager, says that we lost about 20 total parking spaces due to the new configuration, but we gained better handicap parking for events that take place throughout the year. Also notable is that power, lighting and water supplies have been upgraded and will make the area safer as well.
A very nice addition, and well worth the headaches the construction caused for everyone over the summer.
Very well worth it! Looks great. Can’t wait to see in person during the fair. 🙂
