Loaded Nachos Challenge, Wolfpack Basketball, and Thrills Slated for Opening Day of the Fair

It’s game time at the N.C. State Fair for the first time in history as The Wolfpack basketball teams host its annual Primetime with the Pack preseason event on Thursday, Oct. 13, at PNC Arena South Plaza across from Carter-Finley Stadium in conjunction with the opening day of the Fair.  

“It’s going to be a big day, and we want everyone to get in fair and game-day mode,” stated Brooke Johnston, Associate Director for Fan Experience and Marketing for men’s basketball. N.C. State Wolfpack Basketball sponsor of the Loaded Nachos Challenge in the 2002 Home Chef Challenge at the Fair in Dorton Arena.

“Our Wolfpack fans love nachos, and they can enjoy them when cheering on the Pack at every home game in the PNC Arena,” added Johnston.

The men’s basketball team will tip off its season this November at PNC Arena.

“The men’s and women’s basketball season both start on Nov. 7, with the women’s at 5 p.m. and the men’s at 8 p.m. Tickets go on sale to the general public on October 12th!” revealed Johnston.

“We can’t wait to see and taste the Nacho recipes that home chefs prepare,” remarked Johnston. ” N.C. State students and Wolfpack fans can enjoy a day at the Fair before attending the free preseason event at 8 p.m. Fans will hear from players and coaches, plus much more hoop action from the players.  

The Loaded Nachos Challenge, presented by Primetime with the Pack, will kick off this exciting home chef cooking series at 4 p.m. on the Fair’s opening day. Nachos, created by hotel Maître d’, Ignacio Anaya, in Mexico as a snack. His original recipe consisted of tortilla chips, cheese, and pickled jalapenos. 

Now a popular game day snack, nachos are loaded with all sorts of toppings ranging from beans to spicy Buffalo chicken. The recipe ideas are limitless, but only one home chef will get the honor of taking home a $500 prize and a blue ribbon for serving up the best nachos in the state.

The Home Chef Challenge series will have a new cook-off daily during the Fair’s eleven-day run. You will not want to miss it if you love chili, know a Cancer warrior, or love bacon, chicken casserole, cobbler, and brownies. Judges will rank the recipes on presentation, taste, and creativity. 

The Primetime with the Pack event is free, and the event will conclude with a prime spot for watching State Fair fireworks.

The N.C State Fair fair opens at 12 p.m. on Oct. 13. N.C.State students can show their Student I.D. at any entry gate get into the fair at the discounted admission price of $8.
