Hello, my fellow fair fans! My name is Emily, but I have chosen Caramel Apple as my fair name. I am so excited to be joining the N.C. State Fair team as an intern this summer! A Tar Heel born and bred, it was only right for me to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; I am a rising senior there, majoring in journalism. I have always wanted to have a blog of my own, so I couldn’t be more excited to share a little bit about myself via the Deep Fried blog.
As my home state, North Carolina has always been special to me. I love traveling, especially when it involves visiting a Major League Baseball stadium, but by the end of each trip, I couldn’t be more ready to return to the Tar Heel State. With beaches, mountains and a variety of people in between, I’ve always thought of North Carolina as a melting pot. People from all over seem to find their way to our state. Over the years I’ve noticed that the one place all of these people seem to come together is at the North Carolina State Fair.
I’ve been attending the State Fair for as long as I can remember. I started out visiting as a child with my parents, waiting in long lines with my sister to ride each ride. As I got older, the fair became more of a social activity for my friends and me; we’d take road trips from little ole’ Newton Grove to Raleigh where we’d eat way too much food and check out the exhibits.
In case you didn’t guess it, my favorite part of the fair is getting a caramel apple… or two… or three. No joke, I get at least two caramel apples when I visit the State Fair, and if any of my friends go on a different day, I ask them to get me one as well. There’s just something about the apples at the fair that is different than any other caramel apples. I’m not sure what, if anything, makes them so special, but I have definitely convinced myself there’s a difference.
Once again, I am so excited to be on this journey, and I cannot wait to share some great stories with you all! The fair seems to be a happy place for most people, so hopefully, this blog can make you virtually just as happy as when you’re on the fairgrounds!

With love from the fairgrounds,
Caramel Apple
