Friday Night Food Drive OT

We told you last week about the official kickoff event to this year’s Food Lion Hunger Relief Day – Friday Night Food Drive. Last Friday, the football teams at Cary High and Athens Drive challenged each other to see which team could collect the most food during Cary’s homecoming game. In all, the two schools collected more than 3,000 cans of food to benefit the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. Cary High walked away the winner of the food drive, collecting more than 2,500 cans of food. The Cary High team will be recognized by Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler during a special ceremony on Food Lion Hunger Relief Day Thursday, Oct. 22.

GreenThing and Bearded Lady had a great time at the game. Thanks to both Athens Drive and Cary for getting behind this project. Check out the video below for highlights from the food drive and the game.

About Bearded Lady

Paul Jones blogged for the 2009-2012 N.C. State Fairs. Here's his bio from 2009: Paul Jones, here (a.k.a. Bearded Lady). I love the N.C. State Fair. I love the rides, I love the food, but my favorite part of the Fair is the displays of the unusual. The two-headed snake, the world’s smallest woman, the world’s tallest horse and the list goes on. Originally from South Carolina, I hope that I can bring a different perspective to this blog as I shed light on some of the ordinary, yet extraordinary, aspects of this year’s Fair.
