I've never watched a goat show. Will this be the year?
The other day, I was at the warehouse picking up some supplies and I looked over and saw the N.C. Wildlife tent being set up. And then I thought to myself, “I’ve never gone to the wildlife tent before. Maybe this will be the year I finally make it over there.” Now, this is my (cough, cough) 14th Fair. I’ve seen and done a lot of things, but there’s a lot that I never got around to doing because we stay so busy with our day-to-day duties. So, I’m issuing a challenge to my Press Office colleagues: To experience something at the Fair this year that you’ve never experienced before. I’ve never eaten a Deep Fried Twinkie, watched a goat show or gone to the tractor pull. So there’s plenty I haven’t done before and plenty of things to experience at the Fair that I haven’t done in the past 130 days I’ve spent here.
I’ll soon be heading over to the N.C. Wildlife tent to learn gun safety and take target practice. I’ll even be brave enough to show my feeble (or, you never know, not-so-feeble?) target practice attempt on this blog.
That’s my challenge co-workers….what haven’t you done at the N.C. State Fair? And what are you going to experience this year?
Hmmm…let’s see. I haven’t work at the fair for (cough, cough) quite as long as Firecracker, so there are plenty of things that I haven’t done. Some of the more unusual things that I HAVE done include selling merchandise at concerts to crazed fans all waving money at me, taking photos from high atop buildings, escorting Rock-It the Robot around the fairgrounds and judging a pumpkin pie contest.
I think my Press Office Challenge experience is going to be…I have no idea. For me, it’s all about “other duties as assigned” and I’m sure something crazy will come up this year. I guess we’ll just have to stay tuned.
Ok…I am going to eat a giant turkey leg at some point this week. And I plan to ride the Veritgo Swing Tower.
