Farm Family of the Day: Red Barn Farm

The N.C. State Fair is a place where thrill-seekers and foodies can enjoy exciting rides and tasty treats; however, it is also a time to celebrate local agriculture and the hardworking folks who make it our state’s leading industry.

Farm Family of the Day, sponsored by Tractor Supply Co., is a program that recognizes one standout farm family each day of the N.C. State Fair. To honor these families’ accomplishments and contributions to North Carolina agriculture, they are awarded tickets to attend the fair on a day of their choosing, where they will be recognized through PA announcements and signs on the fairgrounds.

Today, the N.C. State Fair and Tractor Supply Co. congratulate Stanfield’s Red Barn Farm — a farm dedicated to raising natural meats and serving the local community. Its current owners and operators, the Irish family, have a mission to produce fresh, ethically sourced beef, pork and poultry products for Charlotte and neighboring locations. Red Barn Farm has fulfilled this mission by promoting sustainable practices that ensure their meat is always of the highest quality.

“My family has been farming in Cabarrus County for many generations,” said Amy Irish. “In 2007, my husband and I purchased a plot of land, renovated a farmhouse from the 1920s and built Red Barn Farm from the ground up. It will be passed down to my brother, so it stays with the family name.”

The Irish family loves farming because of the deep connection it provides to nature and the sense of accomplishment that comes from raising animals. They appreciate how farming promotes a healthy lifestyle, teaches valuable lessons and fosters a strong sense of community and tradition.

“Farming also offers independence and the satisfaction of contributing to sustainability and stewardship of the land,” said Amy. “Furthermore, it’s an opportunity for cherished family bonding!”

Always dedicated to philanthropic efforts, the Irish family has helped the public learn more about ethical farming by hosting educational events and farm tours. This past July, they started a nonprofit, Red Barn Farm Education Foundation.

“We can’t wait to see what opportunities this brings to students,” said Amy.

The Irish family is beaming with pride over their Farm Family of the Day title. With it, they are looking forward to meeting other farmers, industry professionals and potential customers. Between new friendships and business opportunities, Red Barn Farm is always searching for ways to shine a spotlight on its work and the wonderful people who contribute to North Carolina agriculture.

“The N.C. State Fair is already full of fun activities, rides, live entertainment and delicious food. Being a part of it as the Farm Family of the Day adds an extra layer of excitement,” said Amy. “The fair is a great way to celebrate North Carolina’s agricultural heritage, connect with the community and create lasting family memories. The joy that fills the air definitely makes it a highlight of the year!”

Congratulations to Red Barn Farm! Stay tuned for tomorrow’s Farm Family of the Day feature.
