The N.C. State Fair is a place where thrill-seekers and foodies can enjoy exciting rides and tasty treats; however, it is also a time to celebrate local agriculture and the hardworking folks who make it our state’s leading industry.
Farm Family of the Day, sponsored by Tractor Supply Co., is a program that recognizes one standout farm family each day of the N.C. State Fair. To honor these families’ accomplishments and contributions to North Carolina agriculture, they are awarded tickets to attend the fair on a day of their choosing, where they will be recognized through PA announcements and signs on the fairgrounds.
Today, the N.C. State Fair and Tractor Supply Co. congratulate Knightdale’s Pope Farms. Established in the early 1930s, Pope Farms is a fourth-generation, family-owned farm in the heart of Wake County, and its operations cover a wide range of agricultural commodities. They specialize in growing corn, soybeans, wheat, barley, hay, seasonal produce and pumpkins.
Additionally, they raise Black Angus cattle, Belted Galloway cows, hogs, chickens and donkeys. Located on the farm is Pope Farms Country Store, which offers a variety of products for in-person purchase. From homegrown beef and pork to farm-fresh produce and eggs, the store’s items reflect Pope Farms’ commitment to quality and sustainability.
“Our family’s dedication to farming in Wake County dates back almost 100 years,” said Brad Pope, current owner and operator alongside Nick Pope. “Being recognized as a Farm Family of the Day celebrates both the spirit of our ancestors who established this farm with a vision and the future generations of Popes who will continue to carry the torch.”

Pope Farms is defined not only by hard work but by its legacy of love, commitment and tradition. Their business is built on upholding the values of sustainable agriculture, nurturing their land and providing the surrounding community with high-quality, homegrown products.
“From our fields of crops to our diverse livestock and farm-fresh offerings at Pope Farms Country Store, every aspect of our farm is a testament to our enduring passion for agriculture,” said Brad. “We love farming because it’s a way of life that challenges us every day and brings immense satisfaction.”
The Popes find watching their crops and cattle thrive under their care deeply rewarding. Even though each season comes with a long list of tasks that need to be done, the Popes don’t mind the effort. The sense of joy, purpose and pride that comes with working on a bountiful farm is what keeps them going.
Additionally, the Popes are fans of the people who enhance the livelihood of agriculture. As a cornerstone of Knightdale, Pope Farms is heavily rooted in the lives of its neighbors. In the past, it has acted as a gathering place for fundraisers and community events to support local causes.
“Our commitment to supporting Knightdale runs deep, and we’re delighted to be a reliable, positive force within our community,” said Brad. “Pope Farms isn’t just a farm — it’s a vital part of the fabric that holds us together.”
This Farm Family of the Day title is a special moment for the entire Pope family because it highlights their perseverance and dedication to ensuring their family farm thrives for many generations to come. The Popes are advocates for cherishing the farming way of life — something they believe is appreciated at the N.C. State Fair.
“We love the N.C. State Fair because it captures the spirit of our state’s rich agricultural heritage and brings the community together in a unique and vibrant atmosphere,” said Brad.
Pope Farms enjoys participating in the fair by showcasing their cows and pigs at the FFA Children’s Barnyard.
“There’s nothing quite like seeing the joy and curiosity on the faces of children and families as they interact with our animals,” said Brad. “The fair is a celebration of everything we love about farming, and it’s an event we look forward to every year.”
Congratulations to Pope Farms! Stay tuned for tomorrow’s Farm Family of the Day feature.
