Fair pics: Pumpkins

The pumpkins below should inspire you to enter the State Farmers Market’s Great Pumpkin Contest, which will give cash prizes to the largest pumpkins as well as the most creatively decorated. At the very least, drop by the market in Raleigh to see the gourds. I remember last year there was a pumpkin decorated as an owl that inspired me to do a fancy jack-o-lantern of my own (i.e. one step beyond the usual eyes and crooked grin).

And be on the lookout for the enormous pumpkins competing at the Fair in the Expo Building!

Facebook friend Jean Odom captured this blue ribbon-worthy giant pumpkin.

About Cotton Candy

Karlie Justus - blogged for the 2008 / 2009 N.C. State Fairs. This is her bio from 2009: When I'm not blogging for the N.C. State Fair, I go by Karlie Justus--but Cotton Candy suits me just fine. My earliest memories of the Fair are of the times my parents would bring my brother and I up from Asheville, N.C. for a double dose of the Fair and a N.C. State football game. Fast-forward two decades later, and I'm a public information officer for the deep fried celebration whose must-see Fair attractions include the giant pumpkins, decorated cakes and deep fried Oreos.

  1. Next to eating a lot of fried stuff…the giant pumpkins might be my 2nd favorite things at the fair.
