Dorton concert ticket sales off to good start; fans can still find good seats

Advance tickets to the State Fair and Dorton Arena concerts went on sale Monday, and fans of North Carolina native Kellie Pickler hopped online quickly to snap up tickets.  As of early Friday, the Albemarle native and BFF of country superstar Taylor Swift led all other acts with 2,130 tickets sold. She is quickly closing in on the half-way mark of ticket sales.

Rounding out the top 5 in sales are Third Day with 1,391 tickets sold, Blake Shelton with 1,252 tickets sold, Eric Church with 1,121 tickets sold and Jeremy Camp and Tenth Avenue North with just under 1,000 tickets sold.

While sales have gotten off to a quick start, the good news is there are still plenty of good seats available, said Mike Pleasant, assistant State Fair manager.  For example, fans of Nat and Alex Wolff, stars of Nickelodeon’s The Naked Brothers Band, can still find great seats near the stage for their Sunday, Oct. 18, show.  There are also seats available near the stage for The Temptations show featuring Dennis Edwards on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

The four performers with North Carolina roots — Pickler, Church, Anoop Desai and Jason Michael Carroll — are certainly feeling the love from their fans. Desai, of Chapel Hill, and  Carroll, of Youngsville, have sold just under 1,000 tickets each in the opening week. As we get closer to the Fair, we expect to see those numbers increase significantly.

Jason Michael Carroll’s current release, “Hurry Home,” is getting plenty of airtime on local country music stations. With Pickler’s hit “Best Days of Your Life,” at number 9 on the Country Music Billboard chart, she could well be on her way to a sell-out show.

We’ll provide more updates on ticket sales so fans don’t miss out on buying tickets.

About Merrie Go Round

Merrie Go Round is the midway alter-ego of Andrea Ashby, who has officially spent 252 days during the past 24 years at the N.C. State Fair. That's perfect attendance in case you were wondering. In addition to promoting the Fair, looking for untold Fair stories and working on various special events, I also spend a great deal of time roaming the grounds taking photos for the Website and State Fair publications. I like to keep my eyes and ears posted for the unusual and different things that make the State Fair such a great celebration of North Carolina people, traditions and history. I look forward to sharing with you the things I come across on my journey.
