Deep Fried Triangle Tweetup Recap

Thanks to everyone who showed up for the 2nd annual Deep Fried Triangle Tweetup at the N.C. State Fair last night. The press office had a great time meeting more than 100 of our social media friends from Twitter and Facebook in real life. We’d like to thank the guys from OurHashtag for helping to plan a great Triangle Tweetup and the guys from TriOut for making the first State Fair scavenger hunt using QR codes a great success.

For those who missed it, the Tweetup featured samplings of some of our favorite Fair foods: deep-fried Chips Ahoy by Murphy House, hush puppies by House Autry Mills, pork samples from N.C. Pork Council and ice cream from Howling Cow. Fair entertainers like Steve Trash wowed the audience with his own brand of eco-magic. Michelle, from Michelle’s Magical Poodles, “trick-or-tweeted” her way through the crowd passing out candy and Al the Artist was drawing caricatures of all our tweeps. Several people test drove the latest My Ford technology on the new Ford Edge, and some even got their flu shot at the Kerr Drug display.

We ended the night with a special Freezerburns Live! event, where frozen food master Gregory Ng compared a corn dog from the Fair with a State Fair brand frozen corn dog. The corn dog from Fair vendor Steven “Flounder” Springs won hands-down. Of course, I think we all knew a fresh Fair corn dog would beat anything frozen.

About Bearded Lady

Paul Jones blogged for the 2009-2012 N.C. State Fairs. Here's his bio from 2009: Paul Jones, here (a.k.a. Bearded Lady). I love the N.C. State Fair. I love the rides, I love the food, but my favorite part of the Fair is the displays of the unusual. The two-headed snake, the world’s smallest woman, the world’s tallest horse and the list goes on. Originally from South Carolina, I hope that I can bring a different perspective to this blog as I shed light on some of the ordinary, yet extraordinary, aspects of this year’s Fair.

  1. What a great event! We all had fun and my family really enjoyed the scavenger hunt. Well, my wife wanted to slow down to enjoy more of the exhibits and food along the way, but we’ll save that for another day. I’m glad we were able to work together on this fun event again this year. I’m also really happy everyone got to experience Freezerburns Live and be a part of that cool video show.
