Deep-fried heaven on a stick

Heaven is a deep-fried honey bun, or at least that’s my opinion. The press office, along with members of the media and our new Deep Fried Ambassador, sampled new Fair foods during Monday’s pre-Fair media lunch. There were deep-fried Chips Ahoy cookies, deep-fried Honey Buns and Kool-Aid Pickles.

First, Sweet Corn and Firecracker sampled the deep-fried Chips Ahoy cookies, which are similar to deep-fried Oreos in that they are a fried ball of chocolate and cookie. Yum! Flying Bob and I joined in to tackle the deep-fried honey bun, which is about as close to deep-fried heaven as you get. Personally, I think it’s even better than last year’s deep-fried HoHos.

The Kool-Aid pickles hadn’t cured long enough to try, but Ashlee, the Deep Fried Ambassador, was able to convince the food vendor to make a whole new creation – a deep-fried Kool-Aid pickle. Here’s her review of a potential 2011 N.C. State Fair treat.

About Bearded Lady

Paul Jones blogged for the 2009-2012 N.C. State Fairs. Here's his bio from 2009: Paul Jones, here (a.k.a. Bearded Lady). I love the N.C. State Fair. I love the rides, I love the food, but my favorite part of the Fair is the displays of the unusual. The two-headed snake, the world’s smallest woman, the world’s tallest horse and the list goes on. Originally from South Carolina, I hope that I can bring a different perspective to this blog as I shed light on some of the ordinary, yet extraordinary, aspects of this year’s Fair.

  1. Went Saturday morning with wife and kids and had a deep fried honey bun for breakfast. While it was great, it was very filling. Make sure you have room for this fried treat, or share with friends.
