Deep fried blog!

Squealing, speed-racing pigs. Giant blue ribbon pumpkins. Old-fashioned ferris wheel rides. And, of course, deep fried food on a stick.

Admit it, you’ve been counting down the days until the 2008 N.C. State Fair–and we have too. That’s why the N.C. Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services has started its first State Fair blog dedicated to bringing you the inside scoop on what makes the State Fair come together every year. We’ll be your go-to guide during the Fair as well, bringing you the tastiest foods, flashiest rides, newest exhibitions and coolest State Fair characters.

I’m CottonCandy, and I’ll be just one of your hosts on this wild ride behind-the-scenes of North Carolina’s biggest celebration of agriculture. Our 2008 theme is Take Time for a Great Time, so be sure to take the time to check back daily, as we’ll constantly be posting new interviews, little-known facts, pictures, videos and more. Check out the Fair Web site at www.ncstatefair.org for the latest info on entertainers, tickets and events.

About Cotton Candy

Karlie Justus - blogged for the 2008 / 2009 N.C. State Fairs. This is her bio from 2009: When I'm not blogging for the N.C. State Fair, I go by Karlie Justus--but Cotton Candy suits me just fine. My earliest memories of the Fair are of the times my parents would bring my brother and I up from Asheville, N.C. for a double dose of the Fair and a N.C. State football game. Fast-forward two decades later, and I'm a public information officer for the deep fried celebration whose must-see Fair attractions include the giant pumpkins, decorated cakes and deep fried Oreos.
