To all of our State Fair competitors who want to take home this year’s blue ribbons, we have good news for you: the 2013 Premium Book is almost here. The book will be available and information will be online July 1, but we have a preview of what changes you can expect in this year’s general and livestock competitions. A new Deep Fried face

The past two weeks since I went from being just a rising senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to an intern with the State Fair have felt less like days and more like minutes. North Carolina’s Homecoming

We introduced the 2013 Fair theme last Friday afternoon. The State Fair office staff and grounds crew performed a crazed edition of the Harlem Shake. We figured this video was the perfect way to be somewhat relevant and also to portray the craziness that is the N.C. State Fair. The great thing about the fair is that it draws people of all walks of life and from all over North Carolina. For 11 days, we’re one big melting pot for the state. Raising ticket prices

Today we asked the N.C. Board of Agriculture for permission to raise prices for admission tickets, and they approved our request to move forward with the rule change. If approved, admission ticket prices will increase by $1 for both adult and children’s tickets in time for the 2013 N.C. State Fair. This does not affect ride ticket prices. We don’t like raising ticket prices, and we’ve avoided doing so for some time. Ticket prices have been mostly stagnant, even as inflation has caused other fairs to raise ticket prices.
