There’s a new bird in town – fair mascot Casey Cardinal. And he’s got lots of tips for fairgoers. This week we are looking at a few of Casey’s suggestions for what not to miss the last weekend of the fair.
Get a selfie with the FloraSapiens
These tall, lithe, plant-like creatures with a big personality are roaming around Heritage Circle. They just love to pose for pictures and move to the sounds of bluegrass coming from the Heritage Circle Stage. The FloraSapiens are joined by Mother Earth, who enjoys hanging out around the Flower Show area.
Have a ham biscuit
Tradition and the fair go hand-in-hand. One booth has been serving up tradition for exactly 100 years at this year’s fair. The Cary First United Methodist Church’s booth has been making homemade biscuits and serving them with ham in high demand for years. It’s a favorite with fair employees and frequent visitors and the money raised goes to mission work.
Take a spin on the Super Cyclone
Rising like a mountain on the midway, the fair’s newest ride is the Super Cyclone Roller Coaster. It’s real fast, real smooth, shiny, new and it’s been very popular. The N.C. State Fair is the debut location for this ride, so N.C. State fairgoers are the first to take a ride.
Check out Brad Matchett, Comedy Hypnotist
This show is in a new location this year near the Village of Yesteryear. Arrive a little early to ensure a seat since the shows fill up. Matchett chooses participants from the audience for this incredibly funny show. What do you think? Can you be hypnotized?
Cheer on your favorite dairy cow or pygmy goat
Dairy cows are in competition in the Graham building on Saturday and Sunday. The goat competition is in the Kelley Building. On Sunday, the pygmy goats and the cows get dressed up for the costume class competitions. The pygmy goat show starts at 10 a.m. in the Kelley Building and the cattle costume class starts around 4 p.m. in the Graham Building. These classes are fun and a great way to get a little livestock in while visiting the fair. Check out the daily schedule for more show times.
Tell us what’s been your favorite part of the 2015 N.C. State Fair?
I really like the stuff over at hunt horse complex, the parade of breeds and alley of breeds show alot of horse you don’t normally see together and they have free 5 min riding lessons!
