Another Deep Fried photography winner …

It has been great fun looking through all the photographs submitted to the N.C. State Fair Facebook fan page. What an array of images, from the iconic Ferris wheel to the deep-fried still-lifes of Oreos, corn dogs and pecan pies.

It is easy to see why the N.C. State Fair is such a treasured event — it’s a great place to make fun memories! Thanks to all who have submitted photos for sharing your memories with us.

I had a hard time narrowing down my selection for a winner, but I have chosen this photo by Felicia Price.

Deep Fried Photograph winner

A young girl holds a chick in the poultry tent at the N.C. State Fair.

The baby chicks are one of my personal favorites at the Fair. I typically take photos in the poultry tent every year because it is a great place to capture the uncontained joy and surprise on the faces of children holding a chick or duckling for the very first time.

In this photo, it seems like it is hard to tell who is more nervous about whom, which makes it cute to me. If I had to put a title on this one, I’d call it “Peers.”

Congratulations to Felicia for a great photo! We’ve got some great 2010 State Fair swag to send Felicia’s way.

About Merrie Go Round

Merrie Go Round is the midway alter-ego of Andrea Ashby, who has officially spent 252 days during the past 24 years at the N.C. State Fair. That's perfect attendance in case you were wondering. In addition to promoting the Fair, looking for untold Fair stories and working on various special events, I also spend a great deal of time roaming the grounds taking photos for the Website and State Fair publications. I like to keep my eyes and ears posted for the unusual and different things that make the State Fair such a great celebration of North Carolina people, traditions and history. I look forward to sharing with you the things I come across on my journey.
