Bumper Crop: (-adj) an unusually large, fine or abundant harvest.
We’ve been bumping this theme around for probably six years now, but just haven’t done anything with it in favor of other ideas, such as Celebrate What’s Great, Whole Lotta Happy, Take Time For A Great Time and others. But each year in our brainstorming sessions, it gets brought up again and again.
One year, we went so far as to get the designers to try to figure out a logo to go along with the theme. But, nothing seemed to visually match what was going on in our heads. Plus, we started asking around and lots of people didn’t seem to know what a bumper crop was, despite the fact that it’s commonly used in journalism and literature to describe an abundance of something. So it sat in the back of our minds for many years.
This year, we really wanted a more agriculture-related theme, so we decided to take another serious look at using Bumper Crop of Fun. We feel like the State Fair offers a bumper crop of many things: Fun, food, rides, entertainment and blue ribbons – just to name a few.
We can’t wait to share more of the fun events planned as we gear up for the 2012 N.C. State Fair, Oct. 11-21.
